Norwich Union started their league campaign off with a massive win away at Holt 2s, scoring a total of 15 ties to nil and amassing 89 points in a display of both forward power and slick back play to completely out gun their opponents.
Union’s forward dominance was most evident in the scrum where in particular the dominance the front row of James Grey, Ben Bond-Webster and Matyn Webb was most evident as they gave their opposite numbers a torrid time.
The quick and clean possession that was generated by the forwards was lapped up by Union’s speedy backs who were able to round their opposite numbers with what appeared to be little or no resistance.
Oli Ward was in coruscating form scoring five tries, his blistering pace proving too much for the Holt defences, second to him was lock Ryan Day who ran for the full 80 minutes and was always in support and was rewarded with a hattrick of tries.
Man-of-the match was awarded to loose-head prop Martyn Webb who had a magnificent game both in the scrum and around the park and who’s mid-field break led to Day’s hattrick try.
Norwich Union face Norwich Medics at home next week, the game kicks off at 3pm and will follow Norwich Union Firebirds’ game against Lowestoft and Yarmouth which kicks off at 1pm. Both games will be at home and the clubhouse will be open from 12noon where a buffet lunch will be laid on for club volunteers and supporters.
